Our central idea for this term is 'Architecture is a form of expression that reflects human creativity, values and needs.'
Using the Key Concepts of Form, Connection and Perspective, the lines of inquiry we will explore are:
How architects use form, structure and materials to design innovative buildings
How building design impacts our environment
Different ways people interpret and experience built environments
Year 6 celebrated TTRS day recently! Here they all are looking amazing in their rockstar outfits!
Throughout the school, there has been an ongoing art project, linked to the book 'The Invisible' by Tom Percival. Each child worked for 20 minutes, painting, sawing or glueing to create an incredible piece of artwork! You'll have to look in the school hall to see it, but here are some photos of the process.
Year 6 were so lucky to meet an architect, who gave a presentation about the job of an architect and shared some of the projects he had been working on. It was a fascinating talk, and the children asked lots of insightful questions.
During their Inquiry lesson, Year 6 inquired into the different materials used during construction. They rated materials based on four key properties: durability, strength, flexibilty and weight. Following this, the children had the chance to create a bridge using one specific material.
During PE, Year 6 have been fortunate to receive tag rugby lessons on Fridays. Here are some photos of their recent sessions!
This term, the children began by thinking about what an architect does, including what skills they need to use. They then looked at some examples of unusual architecture, and thought about different building designs. The children then had the opportunity to design their own version of our school.
