Un progetto congiunto sui linguaggi dell'illustrazione, della costruttività e della fotografia
A combined project using the languages of illustration, tinkering and photography
Progetto Rodari 2020.mp4"La Freccia Azzurra era veramente uno splendido treno, con un fascio di rotaie che a stenderle tutte avrebbero fatto il giro della piazza, con due passaggi a livello, la cabina per i manovratori, una stazione col Capostazione principale, un Macchinista e un Capotreno con gli occhiali. A starsene tanti mesi sepolto in magazzino, il treno elettrico si era ricoperto di polvere, ma la Befana, con uno straccio, lo ripulì a nuovo, facendo splendere la sua vernice, azzurra come l'acqua di un laghetto alpino".

“The Freccia Azzurra was really an amazing train, with a bundle of train tracks that if one were to lay them all out would extend all around the town square, with two railroad crossings, the conductor’s cabin, a train station with the main station manager, an engineer, and a conductor with glasses. Having been buried for many months in the toy store, this electric train had become completely covered in dust, but the Befana, with a rag, cleaned it so it became good as new, making its varnish shine once again, blue as an alpine lake.”
La celebrazione dei 100 anni della nascita di Rodari ha creato uno spunto per i bambini per riflettere sul concetto di illustrazione e del lavoro degli illustratori, e di come le storie e le emozioni prendano forma nelle immagini. Abbiamo scelto di fare un collegamento diretto con la nostra Unità d'indagine sui 100 Linguaggi, che ha trasformato la nostra visita alla mostra su Gianni Rodari e la visione del film tratto dal libro "La Freccia Azzurra" nel progetto di realizzazione del nostro treno di classe, unendo vari linguaggi espressivi, come l'illustrazione, il fumetto, il tinkering e fotografia.
The celebration of the 100 year anniversary of Rodari’s birth created a perfect opportunity for the children to reflect on the concept of illustration and the work of illustrators, and on how stories and emotions come to life through images. We chose to make a direct connection to our Unit of Inquiry on the 100 Languages, which transformed our visit to the Gianni Rodari exhibition and the viewing of the film based on his book “La Freccia Azzurra” into the project of creating our own ”Freccia Azzurra” (our own classroom train), which we realized by joining various expressive languages such as illustration, comics, tinkering and photography.

The director of the Institute explains to us that the characters drawn by the illustrator Simona Maluzzani for the original book are the same characters present in the film - the Befana, Spicciola and Francesco.
La direttrice dell'Istituto ci spiega che i personaggi disegnati dall'illustratrice Simona Maluzzani per il libro originale sono gli stessi personaggi che sono presenti nel film - la Befana, Spicciola e Francesco.
Le due classi di Kindergarten hanno infatti partecipato alla mostra sugli illustratori organizzata dall'Istituto Italiano di Cultura di San Francisco in collaborazione con la Fiera del Libro di Bologna "Italian Excellence: Illustrators for Gianni Rodari", dove hanno potuto osservare le opere di vari illustratori italiani, che vanno da personaggi storici e famosi artisti contemporanei alle giovani generazioni, tutti accomunati per aver illustrato le storie e le poesie di Rodari.
The two Kindergarten classrooms in fact attended the exhibition on illustrators organized by the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco in collaboration with the Fiera del Libro di Bologna: “Italian Excellence: Illustrators for Gianni Rodari”, where they were able to observe the works of art of various Italian illustrators, that ranged from historic figures and famous contemporary artists to younger generations, all having illustrated the stories and poems of Rodari.
The visit at the Italian Cultural Institute continued with the viewing of the film “La Freccia Azzurra”, directed by Enzo d’Alò, a classic children’s film inspired by the book of the same name by Rodari.
The Freccia Azzurra, a beautiful train on display in the window of the Befana’s shop, catches the eye of little Francesco, who does not have money to buy it. However, toys too have a heart, and on the night of January 6th they board the train, embarking on an adventure to find Francesco and to reach all of the children that really desire, but are not able to afford them.
The experience of this field trip helped us to introduce the expressive language of film, which we used as a provocation to discuss how this expressive language can be used to communicate a story and a message and how it is similar or different from other expressive languages.
La visita all'Istituto Italiano di Cultura è continuata con la visione del film "La Freccia Azzurra", per la regia di Enzo d'Alò, un classico per bambini liberamente ispirato all'omonimo libro di Rodari.
La Freccia Azzurra, bellissimo trenino esposto nella vetrina della Befana, cattura lo sguardo del piccolo Francesco, che non ha soldi per comprarlo. Anche i giocattoli, però, hanno un cuore e la notte del 6 gennaio salgono sul trenino, iniziando un'avventura alla ricerca di Francesco e raggiungendo tutti i bambini che li desiderano davvero ma non possono permetterseli.
L'esperienza di questa gita ci ha così aiutato a introdurre il linguaggio espressivo del film, che abbiamo usato come provocazione per discutere come questo linguaggio espressivo comunichi una storia e un messaggio e come sia simile o diverso da altri linguaggi espressivi.
