Social Studies

This week was National Interfaith week, we were very fortunate to have a visit from Interfaith. They visited all of our classes to talk about their religions and to answer some questions we had thought about. This was for us to develop more of an understanding of different people's beliefs and values.

Year 1 pupils have been using their book Katy in London. They have been able to use Google Earth to locate London and interesting landmarks. They have been brilliant explorers. They are going to be using this new knowledge to re-write the book and change this to Katy in Maidstone. Can you visit some of our local landmarks over the weekend?

Year 2 pupils have compared physical and human features within the Maidstone and Margate areas. Year 2 will then be using this new knowledge to write a persuasive letter to the people of Malawi to convince them to come and visit Maidstone.

Year 3 has been learning about how food gets into supermarkets. We have explored how food travels in lorries and even planes and the distance the food has travelled to get to us in the U.K. We have been able to locate these areas on a world map and calculate the distance the food has travelled. Can you look at the produce you have at home, use the link below to help calculate how far your food has travelled. https://www.foodmiles.com/

Children in Year 4 have explored Europe and its regions, they have made doughnuts of information. They will be learning more about the different flags across Europe.

1. Europe - Land

Year 5 has been focusing on North America, they have looked at the water cycle and completed an experiment. They have understood different biomes (landscapes types).

Year 6 has explored the time of Ancient Romans and the Inca Empire. They have used this learning to think about what they would be like in the modern day and what countries were conquered. They have looked at different trades and trade routes and created their own market where they tried a range of different foods.
