Science: Electricity
Our Year 4 scientists have been highly engaged in their recent unit on electrical circuits. The children have been busy constructing functional circuits, deepening their comprehension of fundamental electrical principles. Alongside this practical learning, a significant focus has been placed on electrical safety. Pupils are now equipped to identify common electrical hazards and understand essential precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of those around them.
DT: Use of Materials and Mechanisms
Year 4 children have been exploring the dynamic field of design and technology! Their recent project focused on vehicles, beginning with in-depth research into historical changes and contemporary inventions. Applying their growing knowledge of mechanics and suitable materials, students meticulously planned and designed their own unique moving cars. The culmination of this learning was the hands-on construction of their designs, integrating a working electrical circuit with a light bulb. This project not only honed their practical building skills but also deepened their understanding of design processes, engineering principles, and basic electrical circuits.
Art: Use of IT - Artist Study of Eadweard Muybridge
Within art, Year 4 children have explored capturing movement; the illusion of motion through flip books; exploring movement through line and shape; and finally bringing all of our learning together and creating a multi-frame artwork inspired by Muybridge's work and the research of different techniques explored throughout this unit.

News article: This term, Year 4 children embarked on an exciting writing project: crafting their own news articles! Each pupil selected an invention to research and then used Canva to design and write a compelling news piece, developing their informational writing and digital publishing abilities.
This project not only allowed pupils to practise researching and structuring a news report but also empowered them to use Canva as a creative tool for presenting their work, bridging their writing skills with digital literacy.
Wishing Story: Our Year 4 writers have truly shone in their recent wishing story unit! Children crafted imaginative tales about characters meeting the Dream Weaver and wishing for new inventions.
This project was a fantastic opportunity to weave in rich figurative language such as personification, similes and metaphors, whilst also mastering the correct punctuation and structure of dialogue. What's more, the children's stories demonstrated a thoughtful understanding of how inventions, both good and bad, shape human progress.
