Line of Inquiry 1: An Inquiry Into Local Weather
Nursery pupils enjoyed learning about the different types of weather that there are in the world, talking about their favourite and least favourite types of weather. The children observed the weather around the nursery, learning Makaton signs to match them and talking about how weather can change during the day.
To explore the weather in their play, the children created their own weather socks using recycled materials as well as creating their own rain sticks. The children are now really good at talking about how the weather is around them and how it is changing hour by hour.
Line of Inquiry 2: An Exploration of Our Impact on the Natural World
Nursery children felt very strongly about the impact people can have upon the natural world. Through our high quality texts the children were able to understand the impact of plastics in the ocean as well as how damaging littering is to the animals around us and the natural world.
The children continued to explore this during VIP time, they looked at how plastic can harm the animals, collected litter from the nursery site, and learnt about how recycling can help care for the world.
Line of Inquiry 3: An Exploration of Our Local Community.
The nursery began this line of inquiry by exploring maps, aerial photos of the world around us as well as using technology such as good earth to look at familiar places. The children were really knowledgeable when talking about where rivers and land were located as well as homes, vehicles and famous landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace.
The children were great communicators when they created their own maps, talking about their features in great detail, Albie even added a swimming pool to his map!
The children then extended this learning further to explore the local area on foot. In small groups the children walked to Aldi to purchase healthy snacks and then visited Costa for a babychino before heading back to nursery. During these trips the children were able to observe the local community, talking about what is from nature and what is not from nature.
Thank you for your continued support this module. We look forward to another busy and exciting Term 6.
