Line of Inquiry 1: An Inquiry Into the Roles in Our Society
Reception children have enjoyed learning about the different types of jobs that exist within our local community. Pupils researched lots of different jobs and the uniforms they might wear. Using our creative skills we designed different types of uniforms we would like to wear.
Our focus text of 'Whose Hat is This?' helped us to identify the many different roles within our society. This led to rich, in-depth discussions about how people get to do these jobs, which led us to research their curiosity.
Line of Inquiry 2: An Inquiry Into What Makes a Good Leader.
For this line of inquiry, the children have been looking at what makes a good leader. With this in mind, we have focused on our Prime Minister and the qualities needed for this role. Through high quality texts, the children were able to understand what it means to be a Prime Minister and the impact this has on our community. We talked about the Houses of Parliament and 10 Downing Street where the Prime Minister lives.
Reception pupils went on a trip to Chatham Dockyard where they participated in a 'Pirates Ahoy!' workshop. Linking this to leaders, we found out how Pirates led their crew and planned for adventures. We were lucky to see how rope is made and all the children helped with this process!
Line Of Inquiry 3: An Inquiry Into What Leaders Shape Our World
For our last line of inquiry, the children have been learning about King Charles and his role in our society. We researched the Royal Family tree and how the structure of this is made up. Our curiosity led us into looking at our own family trees and how our own families are structured. Continuing with King Charles and our high quality focus texts, pupils have also been learning about famous landmarks around London.
Reception children looked at the impact King Charles has on the UK and the world around us and what qualities are needed to be a 'King' or a 'Queen.' They researched some interesting facts about him and did you know, one of his favourite hobbies is painting using water colours!
