Wow, what a learning journey the Year 2 children have been on this term!
The children have been using their scientific skills to test the best materials for different types of flight. They made paper aeroplanes, gliders and then parachutes.
The children have truly enjoyed the hands-on learning experiences during this term.

SPaG
In SPaG this term, children have been learning about the building blocks of written language. Below is an insight into what children have been practising:
Handwriting
Handwriting has been a specific focus this term. Year 2 children have been further developing their handwriting as they are keen to be awarded a pen licence!

A big well done to Hezal and Thanvi (Jazzy Class) for achieving their pen licences.
Maths: Fractions
Year 2 children have been resilient when learning about fractions. They have learnt what a numerator and a denominator is and have been able to identify a half, a quarter, two quarters, three quarters and a third in different representations. Pupils have been folding shapes and shading parts to create the fraction. They have also been making connections with their division knowledge when finding a fraction of an amount.
Art: Cassio Vasconcellos
During this term, Year 2 pupils have been learning about the artist Cassio Vasconcellos from Brazil, who is famous for using IT within his artwork. They have been using their iPads to recreate an aerial map picture of Langley Park. The children used the shape and line tools to create the map.
Geography: Maps
The children have been exploring maps and discussing what a map is used for. They have created their own sketch maps of the local area and our school community.
PE: Hit, Catch and Run
During this term, the children have been enjoying their learning outside where they have been developing their bowling and batting skills. They have started off using a dodgeball to throw and catch with a partner before using a tennis ball. Afterwards, the children started to use their hands and bats to hit the ball. As a challenge, they got to play a team game and practise being a backstop and fielders too!
