Line of Inquiry 1: An inquiry into how systems and structures help communities meet people's needs.
For our first line of inquiry this term, we explored maps and found key places in Maidstone. We compared the places we found to Africa explaining what was the same and what was different. We also created our own map symbols using our knowledge of the local area.
During this line of inquiry, we identified the key people found within our academy community. We explained the key responsibilities that they have within school and why they are important. We have identified different careers people can have and explained what their job is.
Line of Inquiry 3 and 4: An inquiry into why communities create new systems and how they evolve.
During this line of inquiry, we have been focusing on how transport has changed over time. We came up with different ideas of what transport is and how it is used. We have also been using our research skills to find out about transport which was used in the past and how it is different to what we use today.
We created our own artwork using printing.
We have been giving each other instructions in Computing.
A paramedic came to visit and we learnt some first aid!
We have been learning about shape in Maths.
During this module, we have continued our learning of addition and subtraction. We have added two digit numbers within and across 10 by drawing our tens and ones. We have subtracted two digit numbers using base ten and have also learnt all about 2D and 3D shapes!
In this module, we have performed our Christmas production, 'The Big Little Nativity'. We worked really hard to learn all of the songs and our lines before our performances. Our favourite song was knock, knock, who's there? We hoped you enjoyed it too!
This module saw us focus on the unit 'animals including humans'. We have identified the basic needs of humans and why they are key for survival. We have also sorted animals by age and explained why hygiene and exercise is important.
Our artist this term has been William Morris. He was an artist who specialised in printing. We have designed our own front pages about him and been practising our own printing skills!
During this module, our key question was 'Who is a Jew and what do they believe?' We have identified their place of worship and items which are sacred to them. We have also been learning about the key celebration of Shabbat and how they celebrate.
Continuing our learning from the last module, we have been giving each other instructions to create an algorithm. We have also been exploring how to edit a photo and how to keep safe online.
