What an exciting and fun-packed module this has been! There is always so much that the children have to fit into the second term, especially with all the preparations for the Nativity performance, but, as always, the children have done us proud and, have worked so hard on the unit of inquiry.
Line of Inquiry 1 -An Inquiry into how art is expressed
The children have enjoyed studying the work of artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, H A Schult, Tony Hart and Mr Doodle, and have explored the techniques and materials they use to create their artwork. It has been interesting to inquire into how feelings, thoughts and ideas can be expressed through art and how the different artists use this as a way to voice a range of issues and concerns. The children have used the different techniques they have explored in their own artwork, and have made some sculptures from natural resources and junk modelling materials. They have even been drawing and painting in the style of Mr Doodle.
Line of Inquiry 2 - An inquiry into what we can learn from artists in the past and present
We have been researching the local artists, Tony Hart (from Maidstone) and Mr Doodle (from Tenterden), and the children have written fact files as a way of drawing comparisons between their lives in the past and in the present time. It has been lovely to hear the children talk so knowledgeably and animatedly about these artists, and to see how inspired they have been. They have been especially inspired by Mr Doodle (real name Sam Cox) as he very kindly sent the Year 1 children a personal video message wishing them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hopefully the children have told you all about the video message! Please scan the adjacent QR code to view the video.
Line of Inquiry 3 -An inquiry into the impact of the arts on human creativity
It is important not to underestimate the impact that the arts have on human creativity, particularly when this highlights the environmental issues that the world needs to be aware of. In addition, however, their work can be extremely inspiring and artists like Mr Doodle and Tony Hart have played an important role in encouraging children to explore their creativity, to accept and embrace mistakes, and that anyone can paint and draw. This is something the children have really taken to heart and that we have seen in their beautiful artwork this term.
Thank you again for your continued support. We would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
