Applied Baccalaureate Degrees
The AB degree process includes the following steps:
1) Contact the Curriculum Team to learn about the process and documentation needed and to determine timelines
2) Complete a Statement of Need - describe the rationale for the program using a variety of industry and other data, including information about supply and demand
Will go through internal Lane review and will be submitted to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC)
Upon HECC acceptance, there is a 90-day (consecutive) waiting period until the full Program Proposal can be submitted
3) Program Proposal - includes curriculum and assessment, instructor qualifications, financial plan, student services plan, admissions, and external peer evaluation
Will go through internal Lane approval process, including to the Lane Board of Education, prior to submission to the HECC for review; upon state approval, will be submitted to accrediting body, Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) for approval; after NWCCU, will go to the Department of Education for financial aid review
AB degree proposals may take upwards of 1.5-2+ years for approvals and to fully implement due to the amount of research, planning, and resources required.
Find information about the state's approval process and view the BAS standards and criteria in the Oregon Community College Policy and Process Book (p. 86). Contact the Curriculum Team for help getting started with planning and development.

Associate of Science Degrees
Associate of Science Degrees are intended to aid in transfer to an Oregon university. Not all majors are appropriate for inclusion in a degree, particularly when direct transfer or a statewide degree such as the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer (AAOT) provides students the best option. Determination of whether to pursue including a major in an AS degree will depend on whether it is the best option for student transfer in that major.
Contact the Curriculum Team if you would like to discuss exploration of an AS degree.
