Lam Woo Summer Concert 2023 was successfully held in Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium on 23 July (Sunday). We would like to express our gratitude to all performers and backstage helpers for their tremendous efforts, as well as our school, tutors, parents and alumni for their consistent support. In addition, we would like to thank all our audience members for making our first public summer concert after 2019 a full house!
This concert also featured the farewell performance of Mr. YIM Kin-man, our long-serving Chinese Orchestra conductor for decades. We sincerely thank him for his invaluable advice throughout the years and wish him a happy retirement life!

Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir performed as the opening of the HKSKH Silver Jubilee Concert on 18 July 2023. The choir also gladly received the precious coaching and recognition by Mr. Timothy Brown, Emeritus Director of Music at Clare College, University of Cambridge before the concert.
In the second half, 16 of our Junior Choir members and 4 Orchestra members joined the Joint-school Choir and Orchestra and performed John Rutter's Mass of the Children under Mr. Brown's baton.

SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School Choir was awarded the Gold Medal in the 12th World Choir Games in Gangneung, Korea.
Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir participated in the 12th World Choir Games held in Gangneung, Korea. The choir has been awarded a Gold Medal with 86.38 points in the category of Mixed Youth Choirs. Congratulations to our students!

Our Mixed Choir is honoured to be invited to sing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 at the SAR Philharmonic U-Heart Charity Concert 2023, joining force with Wah Yan College Kowloon Boys' Choir, the Pro-Musica Society of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University Alumni Association Choir and Ko Chorus. Composed of nearly 150 choristers from Lam Woo, Bishop Hall Jubilee School, Queen’s College, St. Joseph’s College, and Ying Wa College, the Singing Boys project aims to contribute to the male chorus scene by providing a platform for students and teachers from different schools to sing together and learn from one another.

After the resumption since May 2022, our Symphonic Band captured a Gold Award at 2022 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows. As the top two Gold Award winners, we were invited to the Finals, "Symphonic Band Extravaganza", and won the Grand Champion in the Secondary School Section. We have been awarded the "Tom Lee Cup" of the Secondary School Class which would be kept by our school in this school year.
We wholeheartedly thank our conductor Mr. Chiu and band students for their hard work, and the consistent support from instrumental tutors, parents and alumni.

It was the utmost privilege of our Mixed Choir members to join the Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus, Die Konzertisten and peer singers from St. Paul’s Co-educational College and Ying Wa College to sing the famous Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 under the returning Music Director, Maestro Jaap van Zweden, in the Season Opening Concerts of Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra on 9 and 10 September 2022. Our Choir members were coached by famous local conductors, Mr. Apollo Wong and Mr. Felix Yeung, who were the co-chorusmasters for the concerts, which were well received with a standing ovation on both days.

End-of-term Concert 2022
Our first concert after three years was successfully held after the End of Term Service 2021-22. Due to certain constraints under the pandemic, we performed at the School Hall live to our teachers and students together with a livestream broadcast via YouTube. We would like to express our gratitude to all performers and backstage helpers for their tremendous efforts, as well as our school, tutors, parents and alumni for their unlimited support!

Our Chinese Orchestra was also glad to be invited by Kwun Tong Government Secondary School to perform at their annual Joint School Concert as our first public music performance outside campus after the outbreak of COVID-19. We were able to have precious exchanges and appreciation with the peer musicians from different schools.

After a long wait of months and years, our Symphonic Band members finally met again! Our School Orchestra and Chinese Orchestra have also resumed for some upcoming performances.
We owe our deepest debt of gratitude to our long-serving conductors Mr. CHIU Kai-keung and Mr. YIM Kin-man, as well as the great efforts of the Chairpersons and members of each team.

Thanks to the kind invitation by Ebenezer School, our Junior Choir and Mixed Choir performed virtually at the Singspiration Concert of Ebenezer Jockey Club Music Odyssey to celebrate their 125th Anniversary. Despite another suspension of face-to-face rehearsals and live performances due to the fifth wave of the pandemic, we did not stop making music at home but had our first try as a 'virtual choir'.

Our Mixed Choir appeared on campus twice at both the Speech Day and the Christmas Service this month. Highlights include Christmas carols in four parts with descant, canticle chanting and anthem singing with harp accompaniment, a robed vocal ensemble and a number of returning F.6 members.

Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir were selected by the Education Bureau as the representative of Hong Kong to participate in the 6th National Primary and Secondary Schools Arts Showcase in Suzhou in April 2019.
The choir was awarded a First Class Award as well as the Excellent Creative Performance Award. Congratulations to our students!

Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir will fly to Suzhou on 17 April. They are selected by Education Bureau as the representative of Hong Kong to participate in the 6th National Primary and Secondary Schools Arts Showcase (全國第六屆中小學生藝術展演).
This competition is organized by the Ministry of Education of China. Our boys and girls will compete with teams representing other provinces and regions in China. They will also participate in cultural exchange activities during their 5-day tour. Wish them all the best and a safe journey!

Our Senior Mixed Choir performed as a guest choir in Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPhil) Community Concert. They performed Hwang Yau-tai's masterpiece To Forget (《遺忘》) with orchestral accompaniment, as well as Mendelssohn's Blessed are the Men who Fear Him from Elijah.
The concert was conducted by Miss Vivian Wing Wun IP, assistant conductor of HKPhil. We are very grateful for the invitation.

University of Pécs Choir of Hungary visited our school, and had an exchange concert with our school choir. Both choirs shared their music repertoire with one another. Lam Woo students welcomed the guests with several Chinese and Western choral pieces which were prepared for their annual concert.
Led by two renowned Hungarian conductors, Dr. Lakner Tamás and Dr. Péter Hoppál (Secretary of State for Culture of Hungary), the University of Pécs Choir brought us music from Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály as well as international famous tunes such as Michael Jackson's Medley. At the end of the exchange concert, they sang a sing-along song Jala-Jala-Gee-Gee-Gee together, leading to the climax of the night.
It was an enjoyable experience to learn and to share music with our Hungarian friends. We wish them all the best in the rest of their journey in China!

Our students were invited to perform in a dinner organized by Our Hong Kong Foundation on 11 November 2016. Yeung Kin-ping, our erhu principal, performed Battle Steeds Galloping Ahead by Chan Yao-xing. Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir also performed for the guests.
Hong Kong's Former Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee-hwa, who is also the chairman of the Foundation, donated $100,000 to Lam Woo Music Development Fund. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr Tung for his generous support.

Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir performed as a guest choir in the Hong Kong Oratorio Society 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Concert. It was held on 10 September 2016 (Saturday) at Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium.

Senior Mixed Voice Choir entered the Final competition and captured the Grand Champion in the Festival.
Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir (a.k.a. SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School Choir) beat 237 choirs from 44 countries and regions, and captured the Grand Champion and the title of "Class A Choir" in the 13th China International Chorus Festival held in Beijing, China. They are awarded 50,000RMB from the CICF Choral Development Fund. Ms Lee also won the Best Conductor Award in the Festival. Congratulations to our students and Ms Lee!
During the Festival, they were invited to perform in the Special Concert at Beijing Concert Hall. They sang various western and Chinese choral pieces, including Eric Whitacre's Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine and Fang Bing's The Full Moon. Besides, Ms Lee was invited to conduct a two-hour masterclass for the hundreds of music teachers from mainland China.

Symphonic Band was awarded the Second Prize in 68th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
Congratulations to our Symphonic Band for capturing the 1st Runner-up with 93 marks in the Intermediate Class of Concert Band competition tonight. Their phenomenal performance marked the end of our journey in Music Festival this year.
Thank you very much for all your support. Lam Woo Music Teams captured a total of 14 prizes, including 2 Champions in choral competitions. Congratulations to all our conductors and students once again!

Our Alumni Choir was invited to perform in "Beethoven's Peace & Joy" on 01 March 2014 at Hong Kong City Hall. The concert was conducted by Prof. Gabriel Leung, Dean of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong. The Choir also performed with Hong Kong Oratorio Society, Good Hope Singers and Hong Kong Strings.

Our Mixed Voice Choir was invited to perform as Guest Choir in "Mendelssohn: the Music Prodigy" on 29 September 2013 in Tsuen Wan Town Hall. The concert was conducted by Prof. Chan Wing-wah. Our choir performed in "St. Paul: Part 1, Op. 36 - Mendelssohn", together with the Hong Kong Oratorio Society and Hong Kong Strings.

Our choir performed in "Mass in Time of War - Haydn" and "The World of the Spirit - Britten", together with the Hong Kong Oratorio Society and Hong Kong Strings.

Our Senior Mixed Voice Choir participated in the 7th World Choir Games held in Cincinnati, the United States of America. The choir has defended the Gold Medal in Category 6: Mixed Youth Choirs. Congratulations to Ms Lee and our students.
