Intro to Programming

Course Description:

Students are introduced to the dynamic field of computer coding in a course designed for the beginning coder. With a unique focus on creativity, problem solving, and project based learning, students will create and design websites, computer animations, graphics, and games in a hands-on learning environment using state-of-the-art design tools. Applying their own ideas and creativity to develop an interest in computers, students will enrich critical thinking and problem solving skills. Programming projects will focus on research, design, and collaboration. Through partnerships with local colleges and businesses, students will explore college and career opportunities in Computer and Information Technology. Learning to read, write, and code is a recognized 21st century skill. This course also serves as a pathway course for students interested in learning more about computer-based design in the Cisco Networking and Media Art & Design West Shore Career-Tech programs and the AP Computer Science Principles course.

Google Classroom:

Students will use Google Classroom along with other online learning environments and materials to complete class activities, assignments, labs, projects, and assessments.

Google Classroom facilitates creating, distributing, and completing assignments in a paperless environment, along with providing students 24x7, universal access to course materials. Students can access coursework in Google Classroom from any computing device. Students may also download the Google Classroom App to a smartphone. Course assignments and announcements are regularly posted in Google Classroom to facilitate students successfully and independently managing and completing coursework to better prepare students for college, the trades, and/or the workforce.
