Helping your child at home can be a challenge. Teachers are trained to teach reading and spend a lot of time refining their practice. This section is to help parents, family members, and caregivers understand reading, understand some words that teachers are using, and provide some activities that can be used at home.
It is difficult to completely understand what a teacher or a progress report is telling you about your child. This section is aimed at providing help so parents, family members, and caregivers can interact and provide tools to be used at home.
Here is a link to a Practice Guide from the What Works Clearninghouse titled "Tips for Supporting Reading Skills at Home". This is a wonderful resource that helps parents support their child's reading skills.
One of my favorite websites for kids is the Warren Trumbull County Library. They have an online kids section on the website that has a great resource: Bookflix. It is free and all you need is your library card number. If you don't have a library card, this is a great reason to get one.
