Curriculum

We know that students learn best in a safe and caring environment. An important factor in our curriculum is to make sure we are aligning and complementing with each grades' reading program. Student in Bulldog Bunch are not pulled out of their core reading instruction. The program supports and provides strategic instruction for the students. In addition to creating a safe and caring learning environment, the Bulldog Bunch intervention program is made up of the following elements:

  • Heggerty Phonemic Awareness

  • Blast Foundations and HD Word Foundations (Programs from Really Great Reading)

  • Core Knowledge Language Arts (Grades K, 1, 2, and 3) supplemental programs.

The Heggerty Curriculum consists of daily phonemic awareness lessons. Students receive Heggerty instruction in the general classroom and in Bulldog Bunch. We reinforce it by spiraling the lessons so students receive extra practice and extra opportunities to master these important phonemic awareness skills.

Blast and HD Word Foundations are intervention curriculums specifically designed to for students in grades 1, 2, and 3. This program provides explicit phonics and reading fluency direct instruction. It aligns exactly with the reading programs in all student´s general classrooms K-4. Core Knowledge Language Arts supplemental curriculum provides the text base from which students practice their new phonics skills from Blast and HD. CKLA also provides grade level vocabulary instruction and development.

Title will not be utilizing Lexia Core 5 Reading Series but we will be monitoring it, making sure students are reaching their target units weekly.

For the 2020-2021 school year, the Title team will be working to provide supplemental instruction to students based on their needs and delivery of that instruction will be tailored as well.
