Assessments are important. Schools perform assessments on their students to identify areas of strength and areas that need attention. We believe assessments inform instruction and provide the road map for student success. There are state mandated assessments (ELA State Assessment and KRA), meaning the Ohio Department of Education requires schools to give these assessments. For more state assessment information, please see the Parent State Assessment Information page located on the Lakeview district website ( https://www.lakeviewlocal.org/parents.aspx )
These assessments are administered in group or class settings and are given once a year (except for 3rd grade ELA which is given in the fall and the spring) and results can take many months before data are available. Lakeview Elementary district assessments can be administered in large group, small group, or one-on-one settings; data is available within days; and are given 3 times a year.
Third grade ELA AIR state assessments can be given paper-pencil or online. NWEA and KRA are administered online.
We believe when looking at young learners, it is important to assess in multiple formats. The data collected provides a comprehensive picture and confirmation of the areas that a student excels in and in areas that need more attention.
