The program known as PASS (Pre-vocational Alternative Student System) offers students a chance to be successful in school through alternative types of instruction. The program is offered at the Adirondack Education Center (our BOCES center) and involves a half-day of class at LPHS and a half-day at the AEC.
Participation in the PASS program for one year does not automatically guarantee enrollment in the PASS program for additional years.

Automotive Technology is a training program that focuses on career readiness and technical college preparation. The students will develop a broad understanding of the principles of the various mechanical, electronic and computerized systems in vehicle use today. Instruction is keyed toward diagnosis, repair and maintenance.
Students are trained on our fleet of shop vehicles for hands-on application of skills in all areas from basic safety to the advanced computer diagnostics needed to work on today’s vehicles. A “real world” internship at local automotive businesses for seniors is an integral part of the student experience.

Students enrolled in Building Trades will gain an understanding of the basic theo- ries of carpentry, using the tools and equipment of the trade. They will then apply these theories to lab projects cou- pled with hands-on experience either in the classroom or at an off campus con- struction site during their two years of study.

Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Resort Services Program teaches students the management and culinary skills needed for a career in the hospitali- ty industry. Students will utilize the two-year ProStart curriculum, supported by the National Restaurant Association, which includes classroom study, lab work, mentored work experiences and hands-on applications operating the on-site café.

Cosmetology is a two-year program which offers instruction and practical experience in the skills and theory necessary to be a licensed cosmetologist. This includes care of the hair, skin, nails and related services offered in a spa or salon. Equipment used in the cosmetology laboratory is equivalent to that found in a modern salon. Students must fulfill the requirement of one thousand instructional hours. The successful completion of the program qualifies the students to take the New York State Cosmetology Licensing Exam.

The goal of this course is to acquaint the high school student with a true picture of the health occupations that are availa-
ble. Basic entry-level skills are taught for a variety of health occupations. The student will be objectively introduced via classroom instruction and clinical, supervised experi- ence.

Natural Resource Science students have the opportunity to spend time outdoors learning by doing various types of work. Basic skills are developed in operation and daily maintenance of heavy equipment.
Skill in the use of equipment and instruments is further developed by projects designed to give students an understanding of natural resource conservation principles.

This is a one year course of instruction in the process of designing and coding programming logic for games, including game rules, mechanics, and simulations, to create and complete modules and game experiences. Students will learn the fundamentals of programming, design, and production of modern gaming systems.
This New Vision program targets students who have a desire to pursue a career in Computer Programming and/or the Gaming field. Students must have taken Algebra and Geometry and maintain a minimum 85 average.

This program of study is dual-listed under Occupational Programs available at the Adirondack Education Center.
Open to Seniors, this half-day course introduces students to a variety of health care professions and the important role of health care in our world today. Located adjacent to the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, New Vision students study course work in Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Terminology, Government, Economics, English elective, and Health Careers. In addition, successful students will earn up to 10 college credits through NCCC (additional fee required). Students shadow working professionals in the hospital in all the major service areas.
Students must apply during the Spring of their Junior year and be admitted to the program. Candidates must have a cumulative average of 85 or higher, must be mature and have the ability to work independently, demonstrate above average written and verbal skills, completion of 3 years of Science as well as 3 years of Mathematics. Recommendations from the Guidance Counselor and the Principal are also required.
