Library goal #1

Libraries provide opportunities for our students to see themselves in the books and digital resources that all them access to materials they can identify with through mirrors, windows, doors, and sliding glass doors building on their sense of belonging to the school culture as the library provides materials that represents everyone.

Library Goal #2

The school library extends beyond books and print materials for students and staff, it extends into digital learning materials and opportunities for exploration that support the cultural diversity and pluralistic nature of American society.

The Foundation of School Library Programs

A district long-range plan for library services is required by Wisconsin Administrative Code PI8.01(2)(h). Board approved district library and technology plans have been a part of library programming since PI8 was created in 1974. With recent changes in requirements and forms of these plans, library plans have been left to stand on their own. Using the Future Ready Librarian framework as a guide, an up-to-date library plan has been created for the Lakeland Union High School District Library. Having a long-range plan developed utilizing the Future Ready Librarian framework allows for library programing to effectively increase student achievement, provide equitable resources to all, and be a key collaborative part of district learning initiatives. The goals, listed above, specifically follow the framework outlined in the LUHS Continuous Growth Plan that began in the 2022 - 2023 school year (This plan will also be aligned to the district goals when they are finalized). Creating and authentically implementing a library plan allows for demonstration of program growth and effectiveness. It provides for communication with stakeholders and focused attention on library program priorities aligned with other district work.

This site acts as a dynamic format of the plan and contains pages that represent each of the "wedges" of the Future Ready Librarians framework that all lead to learner centered literacy. Each page contains a short description of the wedge, along with what is currently being done in the LUHS Library program, possible areas for growth, and links to artifacts when applicable.

LUHS Library Mission:

To provide space and resources to empower students with diverse skills and literacies to be critical thinkers, effective and ethical users and producers of ideas and information, and lifelong readers and learners; collaborating with peers and leaders to promote innovative practices while ensuring equitable learning opportunities for all students.
