Spanish I is designed to teach students how to speak, read, and write simple Spanish. Students will be introduced to the pronunciation, sound system, functional vocabulary, and cultural themes of the Spanish speaking world. Speaking is an essential part of learning the language. This will be encouraged throughout the course over use of the students’ primary language.
Prerequisite: Spanish I
Spanish II builds upon knowledge gained in Spanish 1. This course will also reinforce the skills learned in Spanish I: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Emphasis is on perfecting pronunciation, mastery of the basic grammatical structures, and increased communicative proficiency. Acquisition of functional vocabulary is expected as well as use of the target language over students’ primary language.
Prerequisite: Spanish II with an average of 85%
Spanish III builds upon grammatical concepts, vocabulary and cultural components introduced in Spanish I and Spanish II. Emphasis is placed on multiple tense written expression and conversation. Students will be expected to complete projects on Spanish culture and history. Oral exams will be given as well. A Spanish dictionary is required.

Spanish IV includes the study of Spanish Literature, History and Art while emphasizing reading comprehension, speaking, and writing. Advanced grammatical concepts will also be introduced and explored. Students will be expected to complete projects that demonstrate their comprehension and command of the language . Oral exams will be given as well. A Spanish dictionary is required.
