Below are two videos of music I like to listen to around Halloween time! The first one shows you the beat with the figure bouncing along the trees. The second one has the same music but this time instead of showing the beat, a little goblin bounces along with the rhythm of the melody. In the first video, pat the beat on your legs. When you watch the second video, clap the rhythm (the ti-ti's and ta's). Go back to Google Classroom and answer a question about this music!
The video to the left will work through the practice process for the beginning of Gently Sleep. This is review for some of you but it should help you to practice at home without me. :) When you are finished, please go to Google Classroom and answer a couple of questions about this song!
If you feel confident, you can go ahead and practice the end of each line too - I would love to hear your progress so feel free to take a video of yourself playing and send it to michaelsd@lafarge.k12.wi.us!
Get your recorder ready to play! Today I am going to go through a practice process with you. I find that it is the best way to successfully learn a new song!
This is your singing check song for 4th grade - please listen and review. Can you sing along with the refrain?
Please review the recorder work from two weeks ago. Soon you will be ready to play a song!
Watch the video of your new song. When you have finished (be sure to sing along!) please go back to Google Classroom and answer the questions about the lesson.
Please work on your note name flashcards! I would like you to time yourself to see how long it takes you to go through. Take your time to figure out if you need to use the memory clue for a line note (a "boy" in the story, Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge) or if the note is in a space so you spell the word FACE. Send me a message letting me know how long it took you to go through the cards. We will time occasionally to see if you are getting quicker!
This is an echo exercise that uses the 3 notes you have been introduced to on the recorder. You first listen to each measure, and then you play. you can see the correct fingering on the left hand side, and the note on the staff with the letter below on the right hand side. Your goal should be to make a lovely sound with no squeaks - be sure to cover holes all the way and to blow gently!
Start today by watching this video and reviewing the notes B and A. Do your best to make your echo patterns sound just like mine by being sure to cover the holes all the way and not blow too hard!
Learn how to play the new note G. Try to match the sound of this instructor's G. Soon you'll be ready to play some songs!
You will need your recorder for today's work. Our goal today is to review the note B (on the third line of the music staff) and to add the new note A (on the second space.) Remember to use gentle, soft air and to cover the hole all the way with the PADS of your fingers, not the tips. There is a lot of echoing patterns here - if you have difficulty, review the work as much as you need to get a good sound!
Watch this video on how to play the note B (on the third line of the music staff). When you play, be sure that your LEFT hand is on the top - it will look opposite of the recorder player in the video. Also, be sure to blow into your recorder with GENTLE BREATH!
In this recording I play some 4 beat rhythms on the note B. I leave time for you to echo me. Please work to control your breath so your sound is gentle and lovely. When you are done, go back to Google Classroom to answer some questions about your recorder work today.
Hello fourth graders. Today your assignment is to review the names of the lines and the spaces - the A,B,C letter names. Today you will pick up some note name flash cards from school when you drop off this week's work and pick up next week's. Look for a plastic ziplock with your name on it. Also in the bag will be a recorder (yay!) and a book of recorder music. PLEASE do not work with the recorder yet - we will get to it next week! Your job today is to spend 10 minutes working on the note name flash cards. You should look at the side with the 5 lines (staff) with the note on it. Decide if it is a boy (then you use Every Bood Boy Deserves Fudge to figure out the note name) or a ghose (remember that those spell the word FACE). Say the name you think it is, then turn the card over and see if you are correct! If you are quick at these note names, you may make your way through the flash cards a few times in your 10 minutes! When you are done, fill out the short question on the google form in classroom. I am giving you through the weekend to finish this assignment because you may not be able to pick up the bag from school until later this afternoon! Have a great weekend!
As you may have figured out, the story of Mr. Everybody is actually a fun way to learn the letter names of the notes on the five lines that we write music on, called the music staff! If the note is on a line, you use the first letter of each word of the phrase "Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge" to find the name of the note!
If the note is in a space (between two lines, touching the lines but not crossing them) you can start from the bottom space and spell the word "face" to find the name of each note!
Find a little quiz in Google Classroom about the notes on the lines and in the spaces. You can use these pictures to help you answer the questions!
Take a listen to the rest of the story of Mr. Everybody - and learn about the four ghosts that haunt his apartment! When you are done, go back to Google Classroom to answer a question about the ghosts!
If you need to echo sing, you can go back to the last music lesson and click on "Autumn Leaves, Echo version"
Click on the picture to get linked to Musicplayonline. Along the top, grade levels are listed, click on grade 3. on the left side is a song list. Song #9 is Rocky Mountain. Click on it. Then go to "Movies" - it is below and to the right of the song list. Click on it to hear Rocky Mountain and answer the question about it in Google Classroom.
Go back to Musicplayonline by clicking on the picture above. Look for the game called "Which Rhythm Do You Hear?" - the icon for it is in the picture above. In order to start playing, you will need to click on the level you want to play - today you will play LEVEL 2! You will have three rhythm choices. Read them all. After you have read them, click the "play" button. You can play the rhythm as many times as you need to in order to figure out the answer. Click on your answer. When you are done with all 10 rhythms, let me know if your google form how many you got right!
Listen to the song. Answer the questions below (there will be a place to put them in Google Classroom. Listen as many times as you need to find out the answers.
How many phrases are in the song?
Are any of the phrases exactly the same?
Now you get to practice the song! I sing each phrase and leave time for you to echo. I would like you to do it two times; the first time, CLAP the RHYTHM back to me (the way the words go). The second time, please sing after me. If you are feeling confident, go back and sing the whole song along with the first recording!
You will see this worksheet in your google classroom assignment. Please complete. If you need to review the phrases and the rhythms, you may go back and look at the rhythm work from the past two assignments. We didn't review the rest, but you remember that it is one beat of quiet that we show by tapping our shoulders.
