Today you will have two things to complete. First, please spend 10 minutes practicing your recorder. You should be working on Doggy Doggy unless you have already played that for me - if you have, you may work ahead in the book. Your second job will be to work on Old Abram Brown. In the video to the right, I share some tips for singing this tricky song accurately. Please make your best effort to sing this accurately while you watch the video - I know it may be strange to sing alone in your home with the computer, but practicing out loud is important! When you are finished, go back to Google Classroom and answer some questions about today's music work.
Please continue to work on the recorder. If I have asked you for a time that works for a Google meet, please respond. I have some open times this morning that it will work. If I have not asked you for a Google meet, that means that I am getting enough evidence of your recorder work through recordings that you have sent. I would love to do a meet with you if you would like some extra help, though, or are working ahead and are unsure of new notes or rhythms! Please spend at least 10 minutes working on recorder and send me a message through classroom letting me know what you worked on and for how long!
You are able to work at your own speed for recorder for now. If you still need practice with Doggy Doggy, go down to Monday's lesson and review the practice process with me.
If you are able to play Doggy Doggy independently, then watch the video to the right and work with me through part of the practice process for Old Mac Donald. You should spend at least 10 minutes practicing the recorder today. Apologies for the sideways video - try turning your chromebook on its side!)
Many of the students learning at school were having difficulty with Doggy Doggy so today's videos will take you through the practice process. The video on the left is step one - rhythms and step two - note names. The video on the right shows chin position and finally playing. Please work on each step of the process as much as you need to in order to be able to do it without watching and listening to the video before you move on to the next step. When you are finished, or after working 15 minutes, please send me a video of yourself doing the step of the practice process that you ended your practice on.
If you have completed this, you may look ahead to Old Mac Donald!
Today I would like you to work on the third BAG song in your recorder booklet. It is called Suo Gan. Please follow the practice process outlinied below to work on this song.
read the rhythms (ta's and ta-ah's)
read the note names in rhythm (the B, A, G)
Practice your fingering with your recorder in chin position while saying the note names
play!
We will arrange a time to Google Meet on Thursday so I can see and hear your progress! Check out the form in Google Classroom to set up a time with me!
This video reviews recorder basics and starts work on Hot Cross Buns using our practice process.
This video continues with the practice process and ends with playing Hot Cross Buns!
Today will be a day to make up any work that you have not returned in Google Classroom. If you are all caught up, you can start looking through the recorder booklet that you picked up on Friday! You can even try to play Hot Cross Buns - you learned it last year so it is a good song to use for review. We will go through it together next time, but feel free to give it a try!
I would also like you to listen to and review "Old Abram Brown". You can find the video in the assignment on September 17 down below.
On Friday when you did pick up/ drop off you found a baggie with your name on it. Inside the baggie are a recorder (this is property of La Farge Schools - if you have your own to use at home, you can bring that one back on Friday when you drop off work), a booklet of recorder music, and behind that booklet is a treble clef note name test.
Your assignment today is to complete the test. Take care to notice if the note is on a line or in a space, and check your work. Please do not use any resources to do this test. If you don't know all of the notes, it is not a problem - we can find more ways to review! Please take a picture of your test and send it to me in google classroom today when you are finished. The paper should be returned with any other of your classwork when you drop it off on Friday.
Feel free to look through your recorder booklet! You may remember enough from fourth grade to play a song or two!
Click on the picture to get linked to Musicplayonline. Along the top, grade levels are listed, click on grade 5. on the left side is a song list. Song #9 is Lil Liza Jane. Click on it. Then go to "Movies" - it is below and to the right of the song list. Click on it to hear Lil Liza Jane. Sing along!
you will notice that they call the 5 lines where music notes are written a "stave" - here in the states we call it a "staff". You will also notice that they use a different phrase to help them remember the names of the notes on the lines. Do you remember what phrase we used? Give me your answer on the google form in your assignment on Classroom.
You will see this worksheet in your google classroom assignment. Please complete. If you need to review the phrases and the rhythms, you may go back and look at the rhythm work from the past two assignments. We didn't review the rest, but you remember that it is one beat of quiet that we show by tapping our shoulders.
