Expectations

Assessments and Grading Policy

Grades are based on the individual performance within the guidelines of the projects, the creativity used and the presentation of the project, whether it be an art project or a written paper.

Completion of projects by due date, class participation and fulfillment of the supplementary activities (sketches, research and preparation) are determining factors. Projects are graded based on time and effort put into the project, craftsmanship when applicable, understanding and execution of concept, artistic merit and timely completion of assignment.

Every project will differ in its sources and will be shared with entire class. research could be articles, images and readings from outside sources. preparation is any sketches, studies, thumbnails, and preliminary work done to get ready to make final artwork.

Participation is an important factor in any visual art class. effective use of time, proper use of tools and materials, proper clean up, positive contributions to classroom discussions, and taking advantage of the resources being offered all constitute active class participation.

Each critique day students will be give two grades (scale for 1-10) one for

talking intelligently about their own work and one for their contribution to the

group. Talking out of turn, not positively contributing, or distracting others will

affect your grade negatively.

For each project, I will be grading you based on this outline.

EFFORT/TIME SPENT

Did you come ready and prepared to talk about your ideas in class?

Did you take advantage of the work time given?

Did you work outside of class time?

Did you put forth extra effort to finish the project well?

FULFILLS ASSIGNMENT

TECHNIQUE/CRAFTSMANSHIP

Online Learning “Cameras On” Protocol

Rationale: Our intention is to create more than just an online learning environment. This is our online LACHSA Community. In order to make this happen, teachers and students need face-to-face interaction in order to create and maintain relationships, for our educators to be able read and assess student engagement, and much more. Therefore LACHSA implements a “cameras on” approach to online learning.

Teachers can require the class to keep the cameras on. Some families will need individual accommodations for physical and mental health or may want to opt-out of having a camera on in their home. Families with these circumstances are to contact administration. Administration will confidentially notify teachers and encourage teachers to ensure that their learning environment is supportive of all students. No student will be made to feel excluded or denied access.

Recording Protocol:

Just as in-person, both students and teachers are not allowed to record each other without consent or permission. When classes or assignments are recorded for academic purposes, it is under the following conditions:

  1. Teacher and/or content only, or

  2. Student videos with permission or students have the option to turn off their cameras during the recording.

If a student or their family is not comfortable being recorded on camera for a specific assignment, the teacher may offer options including having the student perform the assignment live during class time, in a small group, or offer another reasonable alternative to earn credit.
