Collage

Project #1 Collage

Using a fairy tale, myth or fable as your inspiration, you will create an assemblage/collage.

The fairy tale, myth or fable can be from any culture or society.

Interpret the story using images from modern materials (magazines, internet, books, toys, etc)

This project can be 2 dimensional but include some 3-D objects or can be mostly 3 dimensional and incorporate 2-D images. Can include paint or other drawing materials.

Collage / assemblage, using objects whether found, bought, natural or manufactured are combined with a variety of processes and techniques.

Try to capture the essence of the story or the actions,
rather than being literal or clichéd. Don’t just illustrate the story.

Think about the materials you are using, the scale differences and the composition, the history of the objects themselves and the processes of manipulation.

Size limitation: No bigger that 15” x 20”

Use papers, patterned or printed, that can help to create a surface or texture.

Maps, contact paper, books, photos, stamps, letters, newspaper paper bags and plastic bags. Toy, trinkets, charms, coins, any kind of small object.

Employ glue, tacks, staples, tape, screws, nails….whatever it takes to attach your materials to your surface.

It is a mixed media project…use a variety of materials.
