Select to Speak is a built-in reader on every Chromebook and the preferred reader for all students who use Chromebooks in the Ken-Ton district. Turning it on is easy, and it is free of some limitations found in free versions of other readers.Â
Directions for How to Use Select to Speak (video directions to the left)
Click on the time in the lower-right corner.
Click on the gear in the lower-right corner.
In the search bar, type Select-to-Speak.
Turn on Select-to-Speak.
You will now be able to highlight text on any page, hold the search key , and press S to read the text. Use the stop icon in the lower-right corner to pause the reader.
Click on the time in the lower-right corner.
Click on Accessibility Select-to-Speak.
Click on the gear in the upper-right corner.
Select Text-to-Speech.
Select-to-Speak settings will allow you to change the language and voice.
Text-to-Speech settings will allow you to change the rate(speed), pitch, and volume of the voice.
