Kindergarten Learning Standards

Kindergarten Overview

Kindergarten students concentrate on acquiring technology skills with a strong focus on developing mouse, typing, and word processing skills. Students will also learn basic coding concepts such as: algorithm (step by step process), command, and loops. They will also apply these concepts using a robot mouse to learn problem solving skills. Students will also learn the importance of staying safe on the internet by not sharing any personal information.

Digital Literacy Categories and Skills Introduced

Basic Operations

-Turn on a computer and login

-Know the parts of a computer and their uses: monitor, keyboard, mouse, headphones

-Use pointing device such as a mouse to manipulate shapes, icons, click on websites, use scroll bar

-Keyboarding:

-Use proper posture and ergonomics

-Locate and use letter and numbers keys

-Locate and use correct finger, hand for space bar, return/enter, and shift key

Word Processing

-Use a word processing application (Google Docs, Microsoft Word) to write, edit, print, and save simple assignments

Multimedia and Presentation Tools

-Watch online videos and use play, pause, rewind, and forward buttons

Digital Citizenship

-Demonstrate following the classroom and school rules regarding responsible use of computers

-Explain uses of technology and digital information; describe consequences of inappropriate use

-Identify cyberbullying and describe strategies to deal with these situations
