2nd Grade Overview

Second grade students will utilize their foundation in typing and word processing to expand into more diverse skillsets including spreadsheets, slide shows, internet research, comic creations, and coding/ programming logic. Students will learn coding concepts such as: algorithm (step by step process), command, debug, conditionals, and loops. They will also apply these concepts using a variety of robots to learn problem solving skills. Students will also learn the importance of staying safe on the internet by not sharing any personal information.

Digital Literacy Categories and Skills Introduced

Word Processing

-Highlight text, copy and paste text

-Proofread and edit writing using appropriate resources (spell and grammar check)

Multimedia and Presentation Tools

-Create a series of slides and organize them to present research or convey an idea

-Use painting and drawing tools/applications to create and edit work

Digital Citizenship

-Identify the potential risks and dangers with various forms of online communication

-Identify cyberbullying and describe strategies to deal with such a situation

Research and Gathering Information

-Perform basic searches on the internet to locate information

Communication and Collaboration

-Create projects that use text and a variety of forms of graphics, audio, and video to communicate ideas
