Learning Standards

3rd Grade Overview

Third grade students will complete projects that challenge them to research facts, collect images, name, store, and manage files, and create multimedia presentations. Students will work with a variety of computer applications for spreadsheets, slideshows, and word processing. They will also explore coding and visual programming concepts. Students will learn coding concepts such as: algorithm (step by step process), command, debug, conditionals, and loops. They will also apply these concepts using a variety of robots to learn problem solving skills. Students will also learn the importance of staying safe on the internet by not sharing any personal information.

Digital Literacy Categories and Skills Introduced

Spreadsheets (tables, charts, graphs)

-Demonstrate an understanding of the spreadsheet as a tool to record, organize and graph information

-Identify terms and concepts of a spreadsheet (cell, column, row, values, labels)

Multimedia and Presentation Tools

-Copy and paste or import graphics; change their size and position on a slide

Digital Citizenship

-Identify the potential risks and dangers with various forms of online communication

-Identify cyberbullying and describe strategies to deal with such a situation

Research and Gathering Information

-Perform basic searches on the internet to locate information

Communication and Collaboration

-Create projects that use text and a variety of forms of graphics, audio, and video to communicate ideas
