Classroom is a powerful app that helps you guide learning and manage student devices. From your kumu iPad, you can launch a specific app or website on any iPad in the class, share student work on a TV, monitor, or projector using Apple TV, see which apps students are working in, and mute student devices. And when class ends, you can see a summary of your students’ activities.
Before you start, all kumu & haumāna need to be signed in to their Apple ID. To check, open Settings and look for their name in the top left column.
If it says Sign in to your iPad as in the example below, follow the instructions here to sign in.
On your kumu iPad or on your laptop, open Classroom. You may need to install it first from Self-Service.
Click the + to create a new class.
Type in a name for your class. Select Kamehameha Schools as the location. You may also select a class icon and color.
Once your class is created, click Add Students to add your haumāna.
Type your haumāna's name in the search box and tap on their name to select. After selecting a haumāna's name, tap on the little x to clear the search field and search for another haumāna's name. Continue searching and selecting names until all of your haumāna are selected.
At the bottom of the Add Students window, you'll see how many haumāna you've selected. Tap Add when you have selected all your haumāna.
Once all of your haumāna have been added, tap on the ••• and tap Connect to connect to their devices.
Your haumāna may receive a notification that asks them to allow control of their device. They will need to tap on the notification, then tap on Accept.
These tools at the top of the screen control all of your haumāna's iPads at the same time.
In Apple Classroom on your kumu iPad, tap on the View Screen button to view your haumāna's screens.
Your haumāna may receive a notification that asks them to allow you to view their screen. They should tap on Allow.
Once haumāna tap on Allow, you'll be able to view all of their screens simultaneously. It will look like the screenshot below. You can also tap on an individual screen to enlarge it.
Tap on a haumāna's profile to view the actions menu. These actions only apply to the haumāna selected.
PLEASE DO NOT change student passwords.
Classroom lets you create custom groups within your class, so you can tailor guidance for a single student, a group of students, or the entire class. You can break the class into groups based on project assignment, and guide each group’s experience differently.
To create a group, tap on New Group at the bottom of the screen.
Type in a name for the group, for example "Reading Group 1"
Select the haumāna who you want to add to the group. Then tap on Done.
When class ends, you can easily stop controlling student devices and get an overview of which apps your students used during class time. If you want a copy of the report, you will need to take a screenshot, it is not automatically saved anywhere.
Tap on the ••• and tap End Class.
⚠️ Please remember to end your class before they transition to a different kumu since haumāna can only be monitored in Apple Classroom by one kumu at a time.
