Social/Emotional Resources

HelpGuide.org a good mental and emotional help resource

By Dr. Kenny Fink     January 18, 2018

HelpGuide.org is an independent resource guide that features articles, self-help tools and other resources dedicated to mental, emotional and social help.

The site features over 160 articles covering 21 topics from abuse to suicide prevention. HelpGuide collaborates with Harvard Health Publications to provide comprehensive evidence-based articles

In addition to topics, HelpGuide offers strategies to support things like healthy eating, how to sleep better or cultivating happiness.

An Emotional Intelligence(EQ) toolkit is also one of the featured resources available with the hopes that it will help users:

HelpGuide is dedicated to Morgan Leslie Segal. For six years, she grappled with a condition that started as low self-esteem and worsened into major depression. She stuck with a single therapeutic mode and her prescribed medications even though the combination just made her worse. Finally, in desperation, she committed suicide just after her 29th birthday.

Site creators believe that if she had access to the wide range of unbiased, motivating resources and self-help tools HelpGuide now provides, her suicide could have been prevented.

Prescribed Reading is a column in which academic research and topics related to health and safety will be presented for reference. The articles are curated by Mālama Ola director Dr. Kenny Fink and presented with information on why the topic is important to you and your keiki.
