Mr. Derek NEkoba

Junior (Gr11) / Senior (Gr12) Counselor

Aloha mai kākou,

I was born and raised in Hilo and graduated from Hilo High School. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Social Work from Pacific University. I completed my Masters in Education with an emphasis in School Counseling from Lewis and Clark College. I am returning home after spending 25 years in Oregon, 15 of which I was a school counselor at a comprehensive high school in Beaverton, Oregon.

I am exited and thankful to return home and serve our students, specifically the Class of 2020 as their counselor. It is an honor and privilege to serve Ke Aliʻi Bernice Pauahi Bishop’s wishes to “educate our Native Hawaiian youth to become good and industrious men and women”. I look forward to the challenges that will be in front of us but am also very excited for the successes that each of our students will achieve. Mahalo to our students and families of Kamehameha Schools for allowing me to serve and guide you through your journey towards achieving your dreams and goals.

Mahalo nui,

Mr. Derek Nekoba
