Year 5
End of Year Expectations
Pupils should be making good progress in expanding their knowledge for progression to Key Stage 3. Whilst singing remains key, the curriculum will have supported other aspects of music making, in particular, the opportunity to access and make progress on musical instruments. They will hopefully have developed their love of music, refining their individual taste and gaining confidence to be creative musicians with strong aural skills. They should expect music to be part of everyday school life and enjoy performing both in their class and wider school audiences.
Pupils will have further developed their shared knowledge of important moments in the evolution of music and of living composers & key musicians in a range of genres and styles. The history of music will continue be explored in a variety of ways, placing music in artistic, historical, social and political contexts and building meaningful and life long connections.
