Year 4
End of Year Expectations
By the end of Year 4, children will have built upon their solid foundation from Year 3 and will have grown in confidence when singing, playing and building their historical and cultural knowledge of the world around us. Their musical journey is enhanced further with drama when producing their Winter show.
Singing: Continue to sing a broad range of songs taking instructions from a conductor and including harmony.
They also have the opportunity to go out in to the wider community performing locally and participating in events with Harrow Music Services our local music hub partnership.
Listening: History of music timeline. Understand the stories, origins & traditions, history and social context of pieces. Pieces should include western classical & film, pop music and traditional music from around the world. Experience performances in school and locally.
Performing: Using a selected instrument over a sustained period of time. Perform using simple notation. Copy short melodic phrases using the pentatonic scale.
Drama: Preparing for a production, music & drama along with everything that goes on behind the scenes. Lights! Camera! Action!
Composing: Improvise on their selected instrument.
By the end of Year 4 children will have experienced learning a range of percussion instruments and the Recorder preparing them to take up either another woodwind instrument or try out the trumpet from the brass section.
