Thai Culture PBL project

Thai Culture EXPO 2022
Social Studies '22

“How is Thai culture connected to my life and why is it important?”

In my previous mini PBL project, I set up a table of Thai culture EXPO artifacts from all different regions of Thailand. I asked the students to identify what the object is, what it is used for and if they still use the same objects in their homes today. Once they named the objects, I asked them what region each piece is from. Most of them could tell me. The launch of the mini- PBL on Thai culture, helped students decide which region that they would like to research and focus on. The project’s driving question, focused on, “How is Thai culture connected to my life and why is it important?” Once their groups were decided, based on their prior knowledge and interests, students then decided on what they wanted to include in their booklets. Topics included: Tourism, art, language, food etc. Final product: all booths were different, all students focused on different areas within the province. The reflections provided insight on what students enjoyed and found difficult.

Results: most students enjoyed researching, as well as cooking in the culinary center and some students found the presentation a bit of a challenge. Everyone got to try the food samples that the students made and give feedback too. Great day spent in Grade 4!
