This week I was lucky enough to have a monitoring visit from Jenn Corbitt from the Royal Society. She came into the University to chat with Kathy, and then went to lunch with me. We solved the worlds problems as well as set some goals for the second half of my STLP journey.
These goals are:
o Seeking opportunities for formal leadership roles as I feel I am ready for this challenge.
o Developing with Gill a strong science leadership team that utilises our strengths and makes a real difference to the quality of science experiences for students.
o Using my growing understanding of the science capabilities to develop pedagogical approach to teaching them. I am keen to model this process to my colleagues
I am excited about getting back into the classroom and to put all this energy into action with my students. Hopefully creating some inspiration along the way.
I also paid a visit to Rose Benns at Rangeview Intermediate. Rose is a STLP 2015 teacher, so I was interested to chat with her about the changes at Rangeview since participating in this programme. They had a wonderful lesson in Kitchen Science where they discovered the effect of different raising agents in scones. Some of the answers I got to my questioning was great and the students were engaged in their lesson.
I have begin reading Wynn Harlen Big ideas of Science Education. Interesting that she puts a focus on the content as well as the capabilities and NoS.
