GIFTED INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
Ben McClay
Mr. McClay's primary role as the Gifted Intervention Specialist is working with math pull-out groups and english language arts pull-out groups for 3rd - 5th grade. He prepares lessons for these 6 groups that accelerate learning standards or explores them at a deeper or more complex level. He provides Written Education Plans (WEP) for all of his students, as well as students in service settings in the 6th-12th grade in collaboration with general education teachers who have committed to additional training (more information below).
CLASSROOM TEACHERS WITH GIFTED CERTIFICATION
The teachers listed below are individuals who pursue additional gifted education training and collaborate with the Gifted Coordinator, a service from the Knox ESC, to ensure the classroom curriculum is embedded with higher-level questions, exploring topics and material with depth, complexity, and offers enrichment opportunities. Due to the above and beyond commitment from these individuals to pursue this certification, the district can formally report them as gifted service providers and gifted-identified students in their classrooms are provided a Gifted Written Education Plan (WEP), in collaboration and support from the Gifted Intervention Specialist. It is important to note that this is not required by The Ohio Department of Education and credit is due to the school district's effort to benefit all learners in the classroom.
