Overview of the process
Working closely with the head of communication department of Watch CDC
Using Photoshop and Illustrator for overall design
Integrated required language and educational materials to help educate and expand participation
As a Waltham, MA, resident recovering from a pedestrian car accident that took many long months to heal from, I found myself uncertain about what my next steps would look like. During this period of recovery and transition, I was connected with WATCH CDC, who offered me an opportunity to step in while their illustrator was on leave and put my vocational skills to use.
It was an incredible opportunity to give back to my community in a meaningful way. Through my work, I helped educate Waltham residents about the importance of the Census and learned firsthand how civic engagement directly influences the funding, resources, and opportunities available to our community. I gained a deeper understanding of how Census participation helps shape local priorities and informs the development of programs and services that support residents.
Beyond the professional experience, this opportunity gave me a renewed sense of structure, purpose, and connection during a time when so much of my life felt uncertain. It reminded me that even in periods of recovery and transition, I could continue to use my skills to serve others and make a positive impact. My experience with WATCH CDC showed me the power of community engagement and reinforced my drive support and participate within local communities.
