These two sculptures are representations of both my hands and illustrate three varieties of insects that live within or on the skin. I provide a tactile sculpture that we can touch, feel and visualize. They also provide a surface for each insect to tell their story on.
Starting with the back of the left hand there is the round worm (Strongyloides roundworm) which often time is contracted form soil and penetrates into the skin.
Then there is the story of the flea which comes from the order (Siphonaptera) and these little bugs cause debilitating itching and suck our blood.
Now looking to the palms of the hands we can tell the story of the screw worms aka (Cochliomyia hominivorax) which are the larvae of flybys and eat flesh.
