What is the Greater Milwaukee Youth Volleyball League?

The mission of the  GMYVB League is to advance the sport of girls' and boys' youth volleyball in the State of Wisconsin and in doing so advancing the area High Schools with a strong feeder program. Young players benefit by learning fundamental skills and having fun while playing in a structured competitive environment that helps to promote the high school programs that are involved. Practices start in August and matches will be on Saturdays or Sundays at Center Court, The Milwaukee Sting Center, and possibly other locations around the state in September and October.  Each “League” would be broken down into grade level and work using a Power League Format to better the teams by keeping competition at similar levels.  For example; 5th grade plays against 5th grade, 6th grade against 6th grade and so on.  This is a great opportunity to continue to develop the volleyball program at Kettle Moraine.  It is also a great chance for players to try the sport before committing to the longer club season (which runs December – April), or for those returning club players to tune up their skills before club tryouts.  First time players or highly skilled players – all are welcome!

 Who is Eligible to Participate?

Girls and Boys grades 5th through 8th attending school in the KM school district or planning to attend when in high school.

The goal is to have one boys' team for each grade; 5th through 8th.  If that is not possible, we will attempt to form a 5th / 6th grade team(s) and a 7th / 8th grade team(s).  If there are not enough boys to make a team, we offer boys to play with girls at the same grade level.  Please pass on the information as we would like as any boys as possible play to form at least four teams.

We are looking to form two or more teams at each grade level, based on interest and commitment to participate in the program. At the 6th, 7th and 8th grade levels, players may be placed on a team based on their ability (A and B teams).  5th  grade and under teams will be divided as equally as possible.  We will have players play at their own grade level unless there are exceptional situations which must be approved by coach Shane.  We look to challenge players that are playing well by having them play in the A league.  Practices are usually 90-120 minutes / twice per week at the moment, but will be at KM Middle school from 5-8 pm on Mondays through Thursday.

Notice to boys interested in playing.  We WANT you to play for us and be ready for high school when that time comes.  All KM students MUST play for these teams as they can not play for another school as a combined team.  Please pass on this information so we can put together full teams.  Boys can play on girls teams, BUT we truly hope we can put together enough all boys teams based on getting the word out to all.

Cost for Participation

$225 (KM School system) / $250 (out of KM School system fee) program fee includes team registration in the GMYVB, gym expense, equipment, and coaching expenses. This also covers 3 summer practices with high school coaches present. Program fee will be due shortly after tryouts through an online format.
