The subject matter of English Language Arts is necessary for students to develop the abilities and skills for life-long reading and writing, growing and celebrating their faith life, and using these gifts to serve others according to the Gospel message.
After studying the ELA standards options, the KML committee has adopted the Wisconsin Standards for English Language Arts released in 2020. These standards are written in accessible language for K-12 teachers and students, but we have also included a spiritual focus for the standards as we want to stay true to our faith and naturally incorporate this into our classrooms. In today's session, we will share the standards and give some time for participants to reflect on their own curriculum while also collaborating with other teachers of the same grade level. Teachers are encouraged to bring their laptops and an ELA lesson they would like to revise to fit these standards.
