Overview
A-Level Literature is a challenging but highly intriguing subject that encourages students to develop opinions, arguments and ideas about challenging social, moral and ethical issues. Students will complete close readings of texts from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams, participate in seminar-style discussions and write essays about what they have learnt. They will not only learn to appreciate Literature from a range of cultures and historical periods, but gain an ability to articulate their point of view with perception.

The skills we cover include:
Developing an appreciation and informed personal response to literature in English in a range of texts in different forms, and from different periods and cultures
Building reading, analysis and communication skills
Learning to be effective and appropriate communicators
Close reading of 8 texts, including texts from the canon of Renaissance English Literature to African Literature (texts will be confirmed).
Assessment
Paper 1: Drama and Poetry (50% AS Level, 25% A-Level)
Paper 2: Prose and Unseen (50% AS Level, 25% A-Level)
Paper 3: Shakespeare and Drama (25% A-Level)
Paper 4: Pre- and Post-1900 Poetry and Prose (25% A-Level)
Progression
