Subject Requirements

Students at HIS Sixth Form are set up for success, aiming to stretch their potential and achieve the best grades possible, providing them the best opportunities to gain entry into top universities.

Understanding that the GCE A-Levels is a rigorous curriculum that builds upon student's understanding in GCSE and IGCSE and would challenge them beyond what they have experienced thus far, we have set a subject requirement for each subject at A-Levels. The intake requirements take into account the student's aptitude, understanding, skills and knowledge in specific subjects at GCSE/ IGCSE that would best allow the student to access the curriculum at the standards of the A-Levels.

It is important for students to obtain the prerequisite IGCSE grades for them to study, manage and excel in their selected A-Level subjects. Students who do not meet a particular subject requirement would need to select a different subject or another pathway.

Without compromising the maximum capacity of a class, final offer of subject options is dependent on the availability of places in a standard class size.

Below is a chart with the intake requirement for each subjects at A-Levels:

Subject Blocks

A student needs to select a minimum of three and a maximum of four subjects.

For students selecting three subjects, they would need to pick a subject from Block A (Column 1), Block B (Column 2) and Block C (Column 3). Students undertaking four subjects would be required to select an option from each of the blocks (A,B,C,D)

A subject can only be selected once. (E.g: Student cannot pick Maths for Blocks A and D)

Students selecting Further Maths do not have to select Mathematics as it would have been included under the option. However, they would need to select another two subjects from Block A and B (4 subjects)

3 subjects: Block A + B + C + Engaged Stream (Independent Research + Project Purpose)

4 subjects: Blocks A+ B + C + D

*1) Offer of subjects depend on uptake

2) Student must meet the prerequisite of grades for the chosen subject

Subject Availability for Aug 2024 start is currently limited
