Formative Assessment

Formative assessment is assessment for learning and is used by teachers and students during instruction, providing teachers with explicit feedback to allow them to adjust ongoing teaching and learning in order to both monitor and improve student progress.

Have students think about their thinking to get an idea of their understanding.

  • One Sentence Summary: student summarizes material in one sentence

  • Sketch: student draws to demonstrate what they know/learned

Build opportunities for peer to peer feedback. Encourage student cooperation and collaboration.
