Learning Through Internships

Windward District LTI Program

Overview

Learning Through Internships or Interests (LTI) provides Windward District high school students with the opportunity to develop career readiness skills by expanding the walls of the classroom to include a structured work-based learning experience based on the student's individual interests or career goals and pathway. LTI is an authentic, hands-on learning experience that will better prepare students to make an informed decision about their future as they move directly into the workforce or continue their education at the post-secondary level.

Training and Readiness

Prior to starting their internships, students will take the LTI Gateway course to learn professional skills and demonstrate internship readiness. Students will also receive industry and/or site-specific training to develop a basic understanding of the internship site and scope of services for their internship.

Learning Through Internships vs. Learning Through Interests

Internships

Students are trained by an industry mentor at an internship site. Internship sites are located at various businesses organizations throughout Oahu, with an emphasis on Windward Oahu locations.

Interest Projects

Students complete a project based on their interests. The student works with an industry partner who mentors the student through the project. The student works on the project at their school.

Become an Industry partner in our LTI Program

Building a homegrown workforce has many benefits including recruiting culturally and linguistically diverse candidates reflective of the community served, exposure to hard-to-fill positions, and reenergizing staff members as they act as mentors to our aspiring pre-workforce professionals.

We're looking for industry mentors to offer in-person or virtual career and educational guidance to students on their interest projects and internship site mentors to provide training in a real-world, work-based learning experience.

If you are interested in becoming an industry partner in our Windward District LTI program, please check out our LTI flyer and contact Rachael Aquino at support@hawaiiworkforcepipeline.com.
