Time Travel in the Classroom: A Visit from Mr. Michael!
Early this month, our classroom was buzzing with excitement as we welcomed a very special guest, Mr. Michael! He took the children on a journey back in time, sharing fascinating stories about what school life was like in his day.
One story that had everyone wide-eyed was about his strict teacher, Ms. Knight! The children loved comparing her rules to their own school experiences, noticing just how much has changed over the years. They were fascinated by the differences and surprised by some of the old-fashioned routines.
Mr. Michael also answered lots of thoughtful questions, giving our students a unique glimpse into the past and inspiring them to think about how schools have evolved. It was a truly memorable and inspiring visit for everyone!

Art
This month, KS1 students have shown great enthusiasm and creativity in their art activities. They worked diligently on creating self-portraits, incorporating colouring, patterns, and a variety of materials to enhance their work.
As part of our focus on colour exploration, the children learned about primary and secondary colours and experimented with different painting techniques, including making dots using cotton buds and pom poms.
It was wonderful to see all students actively engaged and enjoying the creative process. Well done to everyone for their hard work and artistic expression!

Year 2CN students have been busy with their recent unit, "Schools Through Time." This exciting inquiry gave them a unique chance to step back in time and explore the history of our school.
Using pictorial evidence from the school archives, the students became worked hard, sorting through photos of what KISU looked like many years ago. They carefully compared these images to the modern-day KISU we all know. It was amazing for them to see the changes and continuities!
They noticed how the site has been updated, while the beautiful, green campus has remained a constant feature. They discussed how the classrooms and playgrounds have changed to meet the needs of today's students. This unit wasn't just about looking at old photos; it was about understanding how a community grows and adapts over time.
The students did a great job of using their observation skills to make connections between the past and the present. Their work showed a deep appreciation for the history of our school, helping them understand that KISU is more than just a place of learning—it's a community with a rich and evolving story. We're so proud of their work!

Learning About Victorian Toys
As part of our topic on toys, we learned about how toys have changed over time and what children played with in the past. One of the periods we focused on was the Victorian era. We found out that Victorian children didn’t have plastic or electronic toys like we do today.
Instead, their toys were usually handmade from materials like wood, fabric, or metal. A popular toy from that time was the cup and ball. To help us understand what Victorian playtime was like, we made our own cup and ball toys in class.
We used a paper cup, created a ball from foil, and attached it with string. Then we tested them out to see how many times we could catch the ball in the cup. It was quite tricky at first, but we had a lot of fun! Making our own toys helped us see how different life was for children in the past. It helped us learn how different toys used to be and gave us a better understanding of what playtime was like for Victorian children.
