DP2 Science Students in Action
On Saturday, 20th September, our International Baccalaureate (IB) DP2 Science students came to campus to carry out experimental work for their Internal Assessment (IA). The IA is an important component of the IB programme, requiring each student to independently design, conduct, and evaluate a scientific investigation.
Students began by formulating focused research questions, carefully planning their procedures, and ensuring their methods were both safe and reliable. During the Saturday session, they set up experiments, collected and recorded data, and refined their techniques to improve accuracy. Their teachers were present to supervise and offer guidance, but the emphasis was on student independence and scientific inquiry.
This process not only strengthens practical laboratory skills but also helps students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis abilities. The IA encourages creativity, as students often select topics linked to personal interests, ranging from reaction rates and energy changes to environmental investigations.
The dedication shown by giving up part of their weekend reflects the seriousness with which our students approach their studies. Their enthusiasm and perseverance are highly commendable, and we look forward to seeing the excellent scientific reports they will produce.

University fairs and Careers Guidance
The DP1 and DP2 students had the opportunity to attend two enriching career fairs in September, which provided valuable exposure to higher education opportunities and pathways. At the Kabojja International School University Fair, students interacted with university representatives, gaining deeper insights into different academic programs, entry requirements, and opportunities available both locally and internationally.
Later in September, at the Rainbow International Careers Fair held at the Sheraton Hotel, students engaged with an even wider range of institutions and professionals. They asked questions about admission criteria, grade expectations, available scholarship opportunities, and tuition fees, enabling them to make more informed decisions about their next steps. These conversations allowed them to explore diverse pathways, compare opportunities across different countries, and reflect on how to align their current academic efforts with their future goals.
Both events were highly informative and empowering, equipping our students with the knowledge and motivation needed as they begin their university applications.

A message from the DP Coordinator
As September draws to a close, our Diploma Programme students have been fully engaged in a wide range of academic and personal development activities.
DP1: Settling into the IB
Our DP1 students have made a strong start to their IB journey. Since August, they have:
· Explored new subjects and content across the curriculum.
· Became more familiar with key IB terminology such as EE, CAS, TOK, IA, EA, and ATLs.
· Developed their Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.
· Began to practise and reflect on the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.
I have been very impressed with our DP1 students’ focus and organisational skills since beginning the programme. We have several classes with very few students, which enables our staff to ensure that all students are fully supported and provide constant individualised support.
DP2: Focused on the Future
Our DP2 students have returned with determination and focus as they enter their final year. So far, our students have:
· Managed their Internal Assessments (IAs) with the support of a carefully structured calendar of deadlines.
· Progressed with their university applications, with many students now midway through drafting their personal statements/admissions essays.
· Completed their first draft of the Extended Essay and received guidance and feedback from their supervisor.
The year ahead will be both challenging and rewarding, and our DP2 students are already demonstrating the drive needed to succeed.
In other DP news:
This year, we have welcomed many new staff members to the Diploma Programme. Since September, 7 staff members (including myself) have taken part in online training in their respective subject areas. These month-long courses, provided by the IBO, focus on developing the skills required to implement the Approaches to Teaching (ATTs) effectively, as well as deepening understanding of assessment practices. A huge congratulations to Ms Rachel, Mrs Buga, Ms Promise, Mr Johnson, Ms Sharma, and Ms Ellie for their participation and commitment to professional growth.
Reports:
Before the October half-term break, all DP students will receive a tracking report. The purpose of this report is to provide students and parents/guardians with an overview of progress made during the first half of the term. We encourage families to take time to review the report grades and Approaches to Learning (ATLs) feedback together, and to discuss each subject area with their child.
Please note that this report is purely formative. It will not appear on a student’s high school transcript, nor will it be submitted for university admissions. The official reports used for transcripts and applications are the half-year report (December) and the end-of-year report.
