A note for gratitude
The most anxious time of year for me is always the end of summer, not because school is starting, but due to the release of IB and IGCSE results. While teaching these programmes is incredibly rewarding, the period of waiting for exam results is always nerve-wracking. However, this year was different. A sense of calm settled in at the term's start, which I couldn't quite explain—until the IGCSE results were announced. To say our results were outstanding would be an understatement. The broad spread of A*s, As, and Bs across all candidates and subjects is a testament to our students' hard work, tenacity, and dedication. I congratulate them for setting a new benchmark for excellence.

Feel at home; The Student Council is here for you
The Student Council is thrilled to welcome both new and returning students to the start of an exciting academic year! We are eager to see more students step forward, join us, and help make every learner feel truly at home.
We started the year with a speech from our Head Girl and Head Boy. They spoke about the importance of maintaining a positive attitude despite the challenges students may face, the critical role youths play in shaping the future, and some of the benefits of getting involved in leadership. They also wished our Year 11 and DP2 students the very best of luck in their final year at their respective levels.
Mr. Jude then presented the Council's Term 1 plan and explained the election procedure for the new representatives. We have a range of exciting activities lined up that we hope will inspire even more student engagement and participation.
Key Highlights for Term 1:
1. Outreach Program: We hope to carry out an outreach program to support the children through the Hope4Katanga kids project.
2. Run Against Malaria: We will be handing over funds raised to combat malaria through the "Run Against Malaria" initiative by the Rotary Club of Kisaasi – Kyanja Kampala.
3. Student Council Spirit Week: Our much-anticipated Student Council Spirit Week is set to take place in November. It's sure to be filled with fun, creativity, and school spirit!
We encourage all students to get involved, participate in our activities, and make their voices heard in the upcoming elections.
The Math Department welcomes you to a new academic year
The Mathematics Department is thrilled to welcome Mr. Dylan and Mr. Faiyaz to the KISU family. Their expertise and enthusiasm for teaching will be invaluable as we continue to inspire and challenge our students in the world of numbers and algebra.
This year presents yet another opportunity for our students to unlock their full potential, particularly in developing essential problem-solving skills. By mastering numbers and algebra, our students will be better equipped to handle real-life challenges such as budgeting for groceries, measuring ingredients accurately while cooking, and effectively managing their time both in school and at home.
We are also excited to explore the integration of technology into our teaching. The use of graphical display calculators will enhance our students’ understanding of complex concepts, while interactive math games will foster a deeper curiosity and encourage them to explore alternative methods of problem-solving. These tools will help our students arrive at realistic solutions to a variety of mathematical puzzles, making learning both engaging and relevant.
We look forward to a year filled with mathematical exploration and discovery. Together, let's make this a "Math-filled" year!
Welcome to the New Academic Year from the Humanities Department!
Dear Parents, Students, and Friends,
As the new academic year unfolds, we at the Humanities Department extend a warm welcome to both returning and new families. We are excited to embark on another year of exploration, learning, and growth with our vibrant community.
We are pleased to announce that all the esteemed Humanities teachers from last year will be with us once again. Their dedication and passion for the subjects they teach have greatly contributed to the enriching experiences our students enjoy, and we are thrilled to continue this journey together.
This year, our department is packed with enthusiasm for a range of exciting activities designed to enhance students' educational experiences beyond the classroom. Here’s a glimpse of what we have in store:
• Celebration of Uganda's Independence: We will be hosting a special event to commemorate Uganda's Independence Day. This celebration will not only highlight the historical significance of the day but also offer students a chance to engage with Ugandan culture through music, dance, and food.
• Environmental Awareness Activities: As part of our commitment to global citizenship and environmental stewardship, we will be organizing various activities focused on raising awareness about environmental issues. These activities will include workshops, guest lectures, and hands-on projects aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability.
• Study Tours: We are excited to announce that study tours will be organized throughout the year, offering students the opportunity to explore historical sites, business hubs, cultural landmarks, and significant geographical locations. These tours will provide invaluable real-world connections to the topics discussed in the classroom.
We look forward to a year filled with engaging learning experiences and memorable moments. Our team is dedicated to supporting each student's academic and personal growth, and we are eager to collaborate with you to make this year a success.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Kind regards,
Muhammad Sekatawa

Highly impressive presentation
Today, in a Year 11 Global Perspectives class, we were highly impressed by a presentation with global, national, and local significance by an extremely academic, yet personable, caring, and empathetic class member: Martha.
The presentation was engrossing, interactive, challenging, as well excellently planned and very well delivered indeed. Martha succeeded in grasping and holding her classmates' attention with the engaging and thought-provoking content and by asking searching questions of every single student (and the teacher too!)
The quality of the material, the designs on the slides, and the specificity of the content are all commendable. In short, it was a marvellous experience to be a part of and set the bar really high for other members of the class.
Have a look at the specific and very well-designed title of the presentation in the image below....

The Science Department at KISU is excited to embark on a new academic year filled with discovery, innovation, and growth. Our goals are clear: to foster a passion for science in every student, to cultivate critical thinking skills, and to promote hands-on learning experiences that make complex scientific concepts accessible and engaging.
This year, we are introducing several new initiatives aimed at deepening student involvement in STEM fields. From incorporating more environmental science projects to enhancing the student’s practical schemes of work. We are committed to ensuring that students are prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the new academic year and the boundless possibilities of their future. Our goal is not only to inspire curiosity but also to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions to society.
We are also delighted to welcome new teachers to our Science Department. Dr. Rubina Shaikh joins us with a wealth of experience in biology and environmental science, bringing fresh perspectives to our curriculum. Mr. John Olinga specializes in Physics and will guide our students through the intricacies and interconnectivity of matter and energy and the fascinating world of molecular interactions. Their passion for science and dedication to education will undoubtedly inspire both students and staff.
Together, we look forward to a year of discovery, collaboration, and growth as we continue to make science come alive at KISU.

Music Classes and Band practices
The music classes kicked off with great enthusiasm this term, as students eagerly embraced the opportunity to play instruments and practice in their bands. They are all looking forward to upcoming performances, including assembly presentations and the highly anticipated Battle of the Bands. The excitement is particularly evident in the Year 7 class, where students are brimming with energy and show an impressive zeal to learn, experiment, and take on new musical challenges.
This term is packed with more activities, including the Christmas Fair, assemblies, and other events that will provide platforms for class bands and individual performers to showcase their talents. With so many performance opportunities, students are motivated to refine their skills and share their music with the school community.
