November 2023
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we say goodbye to November, it's a fitting time to reflect on the remarkable journey we've embarked on this term. Our outdoor education trips have been a significant highlight, allowing our students to connect with nature and each other in profound ways. These trips are not just about exploring the great outdoors; they are an integral part of our commitment to holistic development. The experiences gained through outdoor education foster resilience, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a profound appreciation for the environment. We believe that nurturing the whole child goes beyond the classroom, and these trips are a testament to our dedication in providing a well-rounded education.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all who made our KISU 30th Anniversary celebration such a memorable day. It was heartwarming to see our community come together and share in the joy of this significant milestone. Your enthusiasm and participation made it an unforgettable event, and we look forward to many more years of growth and success together.
Next, I'd like to mention Carol Koran's Neuroscience Professional Learning Session, to which parents were invited to attend. The session was a tremendous success, and we are excited about the possibilities it presents. In line with this, we are actively working on inviting Carol to Kampala next year to engage in in-person sessions for teachers and parents. Stay tuned for further updates!
External Assessment
In our ongoing efforts to enhance educational excellence, we are about to implement a comprehensive external assessment regime. This initiative will see all students from Year 3 to Year 9 participate in tests covering various combinations of Maths, English, Science, Reading, and Cognitive Ability. These assessments will provide valuable insights into each student's academic progress and help us tailor our teaching to their individual needs.
We understand the importance of clear communication, and as such, we will share more information about the tests early in the new year. Additionally, we will host workshops for primary and secondary parents to provide guidance and answer any questions you may have. It's essential to note that this testing regime concludes at Year 9 because from Year 10 onwards, students are assessed against IGCSE and IB assessment criteria.
Standard Operating Procedure for the Pool/Swimming
Based on feedback from parents, we have created a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for our pool and swimming activities. This document aims to clarify the processes involved in operating a safe and inclusive swimming provision at KISU. We encourage all parents to read the SOP via the link provided below to ensure a shared understanding of our procedures.

As we reach the end of this first term, I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to every member of our KISU community. It's your dedication, hard work, and unwavering support that make KISU the special and thriving community it is today. Together, we continue to inspire excellence and empower our students to reach new heights.
