DP2 Final Examinations
At this time of the year, KISU feels a lot smaller in the Secondary School. The Year 11 and DP2 students have entered study leave and are fully engaged in the intense process of revision. This academic year has passed incredibly quickly and I feel a sense of excitement for our DP2 students who are nearing the end of their Post 16 education.
With April now behind us, our DP2 students are in full swing into their final examinations. These exams mark the conclusion of their IB journey at KISU, and we have every confidence in their abilities!
How can you support your child during their exams?
Revision and exam preparation is often an incredibly stressful time for students. Here are my top 5 tips to support your child during the exam period:
1) Create concise summary notes:
- Encourage your child to condense their class notes and textbooks into succinct summaries. This helps in organising information and facilitates quick review before exams.
2) Practice past papers:
Encourage your child to practice solving past papers under timed conditions. This familiarises them with the exam format and helps identify areas for improvement.
3) Form study groups:
Encourage your child to form study groups with classmates to review material collaboratively. Explaining concepts to others can deepen understanding and enhance retention.
4) Employ active recall:
Encourage your child to actively recall information by using flashcards or practicing self-quizzing. This retrieval practice strengthens memory recall and reinforces learning.
5) Teach concepts to others:
Encourage your child to teach concepts they've learned to siblings, friends, or family members. Teaching others reinforces understanding and helps clarify any areas of confusion.

DP1 – Fundraising for Prom
We are really pleased with the DP1 students and their continuous efforts to fundraise for the DP2 prom. For months, our DP1s have created exciting fundraising proposals and balanced CAS alongside their academics. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our students, teachers, parents and wider community for supporting our fundraising initiatives.
With less than 10 days to go, our students are entirely dedicated to making the DP2 prom a memorable event. They are concentrating on every aspect, including decorations, design, refreshments, and selecting the DJ.
Below is a photograph of our DP1 students counting the funds raised so far; 6,700,000 UGX
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the KISU PTA (Parent/Teacher Association) for their generous donation of 1,000,000 UGX!
DP1 start the Extended Essay
Last month, our DP1 students started the planning and researching stages of the Extended Essay (EE). The Extended Essay, is a unique and challenging component of the Diploma Programme. It is an independent research project, where students select a topic of their choice under the guidance of a supervisor. The EE provides students with an opportunity to engage in sustained inquiry and develop skills in research, critical thinking, and communication. Over the course of several months, students conduct extensive research, analyse findings, and present their arguments in a formal academic paper. The EE not only develops academic curiosity but also prepares students for higher education by advancing their research and writing skills.
All of our DP1 students have selected the subject and a topic for their Extended Essays. Before the end of the academic year, the students will research extensively and start the writing stages of the EE.
