KISU Launches Smartphone-Free Childhood Campaign
On 15th May, Kampala International School Uganda launched its Smartphone-Free Childhood Campaign, aligning with the global movement advocating for healthier, screen-free childhoods. Inspired by UK advocates Joe. R, Daisy. G, and Clare. F, this initiative aims to protect children under 14 years from the harmful effects of early smartphone use, including sleep disruption, reduced attention, social withdrawal, and screen addiction.
Parents shared nostalgic childhood memories, voicing a collective desire for their children to grow up more present, creative, and connected. The campaign encourages families to set screen-time boundaries, embrace tech tools like Google Family Link, and prioritize meaningful offline interactions.
To celebrate the campaign, KISU will host a No Smartphone Device Family Picnic Day on 31st May, featuring traditional games and activities that promote quality bonding time. Everyone in the KISU community is invited to join this joyful event that champions presence over pixels.

School Orchestra
I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to our school orchestra team — one of the most dedicated, passionate, and open-minded groups in our school community.
The orchestra is made up of talented students carefully selected from both the primary and secondary sections. To become a member, students participate in an audition process held in front of a panel of teachers. Once the auditions are complete, the successful candidates are announced on a posted list.
The team engages in intensive practice sessions twice a month on Fridays after school. When preparing for an upcoming event, additional sessions are scheduled to ensure our performances are of the highest quality. Throughout the year, these students benefit from the guidance of a team of skilled and committed teachers and trainers, gaining not only musical skills but also discipline, teamwork, and confidence.
We’re excited to announce that new student enrollment will open in Term 1 of next year. If you’re passionate about music and eager to grow, we invite you to audition and be part of this inspiring journey.

Medical Camp Held in Honor of Rajiv Ruparelia
A two-day medical camp held on May 23rd and 24th, 2025, brought together hundreds from both Kampala International School Uganda and the surrounding neighborhoods, in a powerful show of unity, care, and service. The event held in honor of Rajiv Ruparelia, was a collaborative effort involving Blood Bank Nakasero, Ruby Hospital, and Clarkson Insurance Brokers.
The free medical outreach provided vital health services including diabetes, blood pressure, HIV, Hepatitis B check-ups, dental and a voluntary blood donation drive. The camp aimed to make healthcare more accessible, especially to underserved members of the community.
The Ruparelia family graced the occasion and their presence was not only symbolic but also an emotional moment of recognition for the legacy and contributions of Rajiv Ruparelia.
Popular comedian Patrick Salvado Idringi, added a light-hearted yet impactful dimension to the event. His attendance helped attract an even wider audience, infusing the atmosphere with energy and joy.
Thanks to the combined efforts of Medical professionals, Ms. Tracy, Ms. Deborah and the whole KISU community, the camp was a resounding success.

KISU Launches Smartphone-Free Childhood Campaign with Family Picnic Day
On Saturday, 31st May, KISU quietly launched its Smartphone-Free Childhood campaign through a thoughtfully planned event-Family Picnic Day. Set against perfect warm weather and lively music, families from the KISU community gathered to relax and reconnect, free from screens.
Children enjoyed outdoor games, storytelling, coloring, and play with their peers and parents, while adults joined in with classic board games. Refreshments, generously provided by Tracy, kept everyone refreshed throughout the day. The picnic also offered a warm welcome to the incoming School Director, Michael Starkie, and a chance for the team to casually interact with the outgoing Director, Lee Wilson in a relaxed environment.
It was a joyful, screen-free afternoon that reminded us of the beauty of simple connection and play. The event set a meaningful tone for the campaign, and the community is already looking forward to the next unplugged picnic-to reflect, recharge, and relive the joys of childhood together.
