Walking in Handa’s Footsteps
We introduced the story Handa’s Surprise and the children were excited to step into Handa’s shoes. They each had the opportunity to become Handa, taking turns to carry a basket of fruit on their head, just like in the story.
It was a fun and engaging way for them to connect with the character and explore the cultural elements of the tale. The children learned how to balance the basket carefully, walking slowly and steadily to avoid letting the fruit fall. They were fascinated by the colourful fruits and enjoyed naming them as they acted out scenes from the book.
Adding even more excitement, the children also took on the roles of the animals in the story. They crept like elephants, leapt like monkeys, and strutted like ostriches, fully immersing themselves in the narrative. To build on this, we created a small role-play area with baskets, play fruit, and animal masks so the children could keep exploring the story during their free play.
Some children even started making up their own versions of the story, swapping the fruits or imagining new animals taking them. It was wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow as they retold the story in their own words.

April Highlights!
What a wonderfully busy month it has been!
Throughout April, Reception was bustling with exciting events and activities. We celebrated Earth Day by learning about how to care for our planet, dressed up for Book Day to share our favorite stories, welcomed our special guests for Grandparents Day, and embraced the beauty of different cultures on International Day. We also had our annual school photos taken — capturing these precious moments as we continue our learning journey. It has truly been a month full of joy, discovery, and celebration.
Hold on tight — the end of the year is fast approaching, and there’s still so much more to look forward to!

Meeting Unfamiliar People
PSED - Our lesson objective for this module was to 'become more outgoing with unfamiliar people, in the safe context of the children's setting'. On a rainy Monday morning KG3 set off in search of an unfamiliar person on our campus. We searched far and wide, taking left turns and right turns, taking 10 steps forward, climbing steps and then reaching our destination. We finally knocked on the office door of Mr. Robert Buga, our Deputy Head of High School. Mr. Buga introduced himself to the children and they were mesmerised by the stories he had to share with them. We had a lovely question and answer session and we walked away knowing that someone unfamiliar, had now become familiar to us!

World Book Day & Grandparents Day
The children were delighted last week as we celebrated both World Book Day and Grandparents Day. They looked absolutely adorable in their themed outfits. At first, the children were surprised to see their grandparents, but their excitement quickly turned into joy as they sang a cheerful song for them. It was a heartwarming occasion that fostered a special bond between the children and their grandparents.

Patterns Everywhere
As the children have been learning about patterns, we took the opportunity to explore the concept further by going outside to observe patterns in our surroundings and create our own. It was truly impressive to see our young learners so engaged in the activity. They thoroughly enjoyed drawing their own patterns using chalk. Overall, it was a highly rewarding and enriching experience.
