DP1 trip to Hydroponics farm
DP1 Students Explore Sustainable Farming at Hydrotech Farm
On 24th April, our DP1 students visited a Hydrotech Farm in Komamboga, Kampala, as part of their Earth Week interdisciplinary learning. Accompanied by Mr. Sam Mwangi and Ms. Annabelle Mutesi, the students explored the science, business, and environmental impact of hydroponic farming.
Led by Mr. Matthew, the farm’s Executive Director, students learned how hydroponics enables efficient, soil-free crop production using nutrient-rich water, conserving up to 90% more water than traditional farming methods. They observed the full growth cycle of crops like lettuce and basil, studied data collection practices, and discussed challenges such as high input costs and market access in Uganda.
Mr. Matthew also shared insights into Hydrotech’s business operations, from supplying fresh produce to high-end markets to promoting consumer education. Students engaged enthusiastically, asking thoughtful questions and conducting interviews for a class project.
The visit offered a powerful real-world connection to classroom learning, deepening students’ understanding of sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship in agriculture.
Below are some images of the DP1 visit.
DP2 Visual Arts Exhibition
On Wednesday 9th April, the DP2 Visual Art students opened their final Visual Arts Exhibition. The Exhibition featured work from Dominic, Hadil, Christiana, and Johan. Each student selected and curated their own space, with pieces chosen for their resolved skills and ability to communicate intentions.
They were encouraged to consider thematic links between their works, and this was clearly reflected in their final displays. The Exhibition was a huge success, and I’m really pleased with how hard the students worked to bring it all together.
Below is a gallery of some of the students’ Exhibition pieces

DP2 Final Examinations
The DP2 final exams have now started and we would like to wish all of our students the very best over the next few weeks. They’ve worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and we’re really proud of them!
At home, small things can make a big difference.
Here are a few ways you can support your child during the exam period:
Encourage regular breaks, movement, and good sleep.
Make sure they have a quiet space to revise.
Help them stay calm with positive reassurance.
Keep routines as steady as possible.
Offer healthy meals and plenty of water.
Thank you for your support at home — It really does matter!

DP1 - A focus on the Extended Essay
This month, the DP1 students have officially started the Extended Essay (EE) process. The EE is a key part of the IB Diploma Programme and one of the core components alongside Theory of Knowledge and CAS.
The Extended Essay is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper. Students choose a topic that interests them—usually linked to a subject that they are studying—and work closely with a supervisor over several months to plan, research, and write their essay.
This process helps students develop essential skills in time management, academic writing, and critical thinking. All of which are excellent preparation for university and life beyond school.
We’ll continue to guide and support them throughout the process, but it’s also helpful for parents to know what’s involved. Encouraging students to stay organised, manage their time well, and talk through their ideas at home can really help.
The Extended Essay process will continue until the end of the academic year.
DP1 - KISU Survival Games (CAS fundraiser)
We’re excited to share that our students are organising an exciting event, KISU Survival Games, taking place on Saturday 17th May from 8:30 am to 2:00pm. This fun and imaginative student-led initiative is being held to raise funds in support of the DP2 Prom on 24th May 2025.
Inspired by the popular show (but of course adapted in a school-safe and student-friendly way!), the event will feature a series of physical and team-based games. Students and even a few brave teachers will have the chance to participate as players or watch as part of the audience. All activities will be supervised by a team of students and teachers to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely in line with our school’s safeguarding expectations.
Key details:
Date & Time: Saturday 17th May (8:30 am – 2:00 pm)
Location: KISU Campus
Purpose: To raise funds for the DP2 Prom
We’re proud of the initiative and organisation shown by our students! Full details, including fees and the day’s schedule, are available on the attached poster (below).
Thank you for supporting the students in this creative fundraising effort!
